What are Fitzpatrick Skin Types/Scale?
Fitzpatrick Skin Types is a classification system developed in 1975 by dermatologist Thomas B. Fitzpatrick. This system is based on the skin's reaction to the sun (especially its tendency to tan and burn) and defines six different skin types.
If you think there's still tons of information to learn when it comes to skin, you're not alone. The same goes for us, for sure. Especially regarding ultraviolet (UV) rays and sun care… For example, the Fitzpatrick skin type scale, which offers a different approach to sunscreen in skincare, was a topic we only recently discovered. This classification system focuses on how different skin tones react to UV rays, providing sun protection recommendations suitable for every skin. Come on, learn your Fitzpatrick skin type and, like us, re-evaluate your relationship with the sun!

| Skin Type | Definition | Sun Reaction | Appearance (General) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type I | Very fair skin, usually red or blond hair, blue/green eyes | Always burns, never tans | Pale, freckled skin |
| Type II | Fair skin, light hair and eyes | Usually burns, rarely tans | Light skin, sensitive |
| Type III | Medium skin tone, darker hair and eye color | Sometimes burns, tans slowly | Medium toned skin |
| Type IV | Olive skin, dark hair and eyes | Rarely burns, tans easily | Olive toned skin |
| Type V | Brown skin | Very rarely burns, tans easily and deeply | Dark brown skin |
| Type VI | Very dark brown / black skin | Never burns, always appears tanned | Deeply pigmented skin |

Which is Your Fitzpatrick Skin Type?
If you've added up the points corresponding to your answers above, you can see which skin type class you belong to from the Fitzpatrick scale below:
Total Score Between 0-6: Fitzpatrick Skin Type 1
According to the Fitzpatrick skin type scale, individuals in the first group always get sunburns and never tan. Individuals belonging to this group experience severe sun damage and are at high risk for skin cancer. If you belong to this group, you must use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher before going out in the sun. For this, we recommend Lasoro Bio Skincare Lab Pigment Plus SPF 50 Sunscreen, which provides broad-spectrum sun protection and helps your skin feel more hydrated!
Total Score Between 7-12: Fitzpatrick Skin Type 2
If you have Fitzpatrick skin type 2, you burn to a certain extent every time you are exposed to the sun and rarely tan. In this case, just like Fitzpatrick skin type 1, you need to be careful about sun damage and skin cancer. A 50-factor sunscreen that protects the skin from UV rays will more than meet your needs. At this point, we recommend Lasoro Bio Skincare Lab Pigment Plus SPF 50 Sunscreen! This sunscreen, with its ginkgo biloba and Irish moss extract, will also help soothe your skin that is constantly burning from the sun.
Total Score Between 13-18: Fitzpatrick Skin Type 3
For those with Fitzpatrick skin type 3, sunburn and tanning always pose a problem. This Fitzpatrick skin type group, which is highly sensitive to the sun's harmful rays, is advised to reapply sunscreen every two hours and wear sun-protective clothing. If you want to easily reapply sunscreen outdoors, you can opt for Lasoro Bio Skincare Lab Pigment Plus SPF 50 Sunscreen! This Lasoro sunscreen is perfect for easy reapplication throughout the day thanks to its pump head!
Total Score Between 19-24: Fitzpatrick Skin Type 4
Those in the fourth group on the Fitzpatrick skin type scale have a lower risk of sunburn and tan easily. Nevertheless, it is still important not to skip sunscreen use, even on cloudy days.
Total Score Between 25-30: Fitzpatrick Skin Type 5
Fitzpatrick skin type 5 refers to darker skin that tans easily and rarely burns. However, individuals with this skin type also need to be careful about sun damage and skin cancer in all conditions.
Total Score More Than 31: Fitzpatrick Skin Type 6
Fitzpatrick skin type 6 constitutes the darkest skin tone on the Fitzpatrick scale. It is important for those with extra dark skin tones to always be careful about harmful UV rays, even if they don't burn in the sun. Otherwise, even if this skin type doesn't directly burn, it will definitely start to experience the harmful effects of UV rays.
After taking the Fitzpatrick skin type test, you should not forget to choose a suitable sunscreen for yourself and apply sunscreen even in winter. Only this way can you have a young and smooth skin appearance even years later!
